Euchologion: the Exorcisms of St Basil and St John Chrysostom
Attributed to Basil of Caesarea and John Chrysostom
The Eastern prayers of exorcism, still in use. Where the Roman rite interrogates and commands, these adjure and narrate salvation history at the spirit, and they are prayers addressed to God far more than commands addressed to a demon. The contrast is the point of carrying them.
